This is CAD software that is able to reconstruct a 3D model from points cloud derived by scanning a 3D object. It can unfold a 3D mesh into a 2D mesh too. Helps in re-engineering quickly and easily.
MeshFlatten is a standalone application. This tool can unfold a 3D mesh to a 2D mesh. It is possible to import standard model description in STL format so that further work can be done. This tool then can unfold the 3D imported mesh into a 2D one and the export the same to other applications conforming to the same standard STL file. RhinoResurf for Rhino is a reverse engineering plug-in for Rhinoceros 4.0 and 5.0. This plug-in gives Rhino the ability to reconstruct the geometry represented by NURBs surfaces of an object from a mesh or point cloud which describes it. NURBS fitting within a specified tolerance is possible with the tool. You can specify the surface smoothness required for your purpose and the tool will create surfaces to fit that tolerance value.
The NURBS generation is completely automatic thus it could save a lot of time on the part of the designers. It is possible to guide the surface building by specifying some contour curves. MeshFlatten for Rhino is another plug-in for Rhinoceros 4.0 and 5.0. The flatten plug-in gives Rhino the ability to unroll the selected mesh model. MeshFlatten for Rhino is designed to be extremely user friendly, user just select a mesh and click right-mouse button, the flatten result will be calculated automatically. This is clearly for experienced CAD designers and best bet is to try it out to ensure there are no problems.
